Summary

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

My review

I’ve been thinking about how to write a review about this book in the best way possible. It is nearly impossible to write about your favorite book in the right way, avoiding spoilers and all. I’m going to try after all, because I want everyone to read this book.

Why?
Well, do you love other worlds?
Do you love magic in books?
Do you love a beautiful way of worldbuilding?
Do you love to read in a way that captures you from the first moment untill you’ve put down the book?
Do you love adventure, excitement and dytopian worlds?
READ THIS BOOK!

Kell is a character that is alive, he is well written and honestly, I’m a little in love with him. Lila is my favorite, she had passion and you feel that all the way untill the end of the book. She is a bit of a rebel, but that’s what we love, right?

V.E. Schwab takes you on a journey through the lives of these 2 characters and we will meet more in the way.

Do you want to be swept away from this world to live in an exceptional one for a while?
This is the book for you.
If you don’t, I only have one advise for you:
TRY AGAIN.

Oh, and this book will rip your heart out. That is a good thing, right…

My favorite quotes

“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.”

“You know so little of war. Battles may be fought from the outside in, but wars are won from the inside out.”
